Cass Burton represents title insurance agents, escrow officers, and other regulated entities before the Texas Department of Insurance. He was an attorney for almost five years at the state before launching his own private practice in Austin, Texas – Burton & Bedell, PLLC. While in the employ of TDI, he drafted rules, wrote rate orders, and advised Title Division Staff on policy issues. He also handled licensing cases, negotiated settlement of a rate hearing, and resolved many enforcement cases involving title agents, insurance companies, and escrow officers, some through consent and others through contested case hearings. His firm now assists title professionals with navigating through these regulatory waters; and, when necessary, he defends his clients in disciplinary actions against their license. Cass does compliance planning.
Cass earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from The University of Texas School of Law in 2003. He graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science in 2000 with special honors for his work as a University Undergraduate Research Fellow. He is very involved with the American Council of Young Political Leaders, a bipartisan non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C. that conducts exchanges with over thirty nations. He has traveled with ACYPL delegations to Israel, Jordan, and New Zealand and on his own to fifteen other foreign countries. Cass is also very involved with Ballet Austin. He started his first three-year term on the Board of Directors in August 2012.
